Paapa Essiedu and Maxine Peake Star in UK Short Film 'Laundreams'

Award-winning actors Paapa Essiedu and Maxine Peake are collaborating on a new British short film titled 'Laundreams.' Essiedu, known for his upcoming role in the 'Harry Potter' series and a recent Olivier Award recipient, joins Peake, acclaimed for her work in 'I Am' and 'Say Nothing,' in this debut project from writer-director duo Amber Gadd and Evie Ward-Drummond.

'Laundreams' is a compelling coming-of-age narrative filmed in a functioning laundrette in rural Sheffield, a business owned by Ward-Drummond's family. The story centers on Minnie and Leah, two young women who have never left their small hometown. Their lives take an unexpected turn with the return of Danny, a former colleague portrayed by Essiedu, from London. This event triggers a series of humorous and tender attempts to impress him, ultimately leading them to recognize the value in their existing relationships and surroundings. The film's creative team describes it as a celebration of the courage to dream and a exploration of the subtle ambition and warmth found in everyday settings. Esteemed producer Tobi Kyeremateng, recognized for the BAFTA TV-winning short 'How to Be a Person,' serves as an executive producer alongside Peake, Chris Overton, Rachel Shenton, and Mustapha Wehbi, with Nina Georgieff and Anna Sophia Duff producing through Muckea, in collaboration with Little Lark Productions and Oscar-winning Slick Films. Nanu Segal, celebrated for her cinematography in films like 'Hoard' and 'Slow Horses,' is the director of photography.

This inspiring film is scheduled for its global premiere at the BAFTA and Oscar-qualifying Raindance Film Festival, with screenings slated for Sunday, June 21st at 12:15 PM and Tuesday, June 23rd at 12:45 PM. 'Laundreams' promises to be a poignant and authentic cinematic experience, championing the power of finding extraordinary meaning in ordinary lives and reminding us that fulfillment often lies closer than we think.
